THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN

James Whale's wild gothic concoction is generally acknowledged as the best film in the Frankenstein series. The Monster has never been more sympathetic than he is in an idyllic scene, adapted from Mary Shelley's novel, in which he takes refuge in the cottage of a blind man who teaches him the pleasure of food, drink, music, and a good cigar. The laboratory scene in which Dr. Frankenstein creates a mate for the Monster is, perhaps, the most spectacular climax in this genre’s history.
