Rated PG-13; 106 minutes; 1988

The film version of Neil Simon’s second installment of his autobiographical trilogy. Simon, recalling his life as a 1945 Army recruit in Biloxi, Mississippi, evokes a time of a grueling boot camp, tyrannical officers, sadistic privates, prejudice and fights. Mathew Broderick stars as Eugene Morris Jerome, an aspiring writer called to service in the waning months of World War II. Facing 10 weeks of boot camp, Eugene and his cohorts wonder if they’ll ever see action, however, just the thought does not prevent their going through a living hell during basic training under Christopher Walken.
