Lolita

James Mason, Peter Sellers, Sue Lyon, Shelley Winters
Turner/MGM;
Directed by Stanley Kubrick
Black and White; Not Rated; 152 minutes; 1962

Stanley Kubrick's fascinating film, based on the novel by Vladimir Nabokov, is the story of a sexually precocious young nymphet named Lolita (Sue Lyon). Professor Humbert Humbert (James Mason) is a man solid in his ways until he meets the alluring disarming Lolita. Shelley Winters is outstanding as the girl's hysterical mother, but acting kudos must also go to Peter Sellers as the exquisitely decadent Clare Quilty.
