This film covers the first chapter in Abraham Lincoln’s life starting with his early years as a Kentucky woodsman and going until his election to the Presidency in 1860. Since Lincoln is one of the most loved and revered Presidents, it is intriguing to see a dark side that includes doubts, fears and indecision. Mary Todd Lincoln, his equally ambitious wife, is superbly acted by Ruth Gordon.
