Modern artist, Jean Michael Basquiat (Jeffrey Wright) went from sleeping in a cardboard box in New York to hanging out with Andy Warhol (David Bowie) to highly esteemed artist before his death from a heroin overdose in 1988 at the age of twenty-seven. This is the first film about an African-American artist.
