Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks), an attorney at a prestigious law firm in Philadelphia, suspects he was fired from his job because he has AIDS even though he was told he was fired for incompetence. He turns to Joe Miller (Denzel Washington) a small time attorney to win back his job. Joe is reluctant to take on Andrew’s case, not only because he thinks they will lose, but also because he doesn’t like homosexuals.
