A fast-paced Cinderella comedy of
mistaken identity and unexpected love, MRS. WINTERBOURNE follows the
misadventures of 18-year-old Connie Doyle (Ricki Lake). Seduced, impregnated
and dumped by smooth-talking Steve DeCunzo (Loren Dean), Connie is mistaken for
another pregnant woman after the train she’s riding derails. Despite her
protests, Connie is believed to be Patricia Winterbourne, who had been on her
way to meet her wealthy husband’s family for the first time. Connie soon finds
herself in the Winterbourne mansion with grieving mother-in-law, Grace (Shirley
MacLaine) and her ‘husband’s’ skeptical twin brother, Bill (Brendan Fraser).
Connie is mistakenly accepted as one of the Winterbournes, all the while
keeping her true identity a secret. For the first time in Connie’s life things
are going well. Then Steve, the real father of Connie’s baby, reappears and
threatens Connie’s new-found, hard-won happiness.
