Janie (Phyllis Logan) is a Scottish farm-wife who lives an isolated and bleak existence far from the chaos of World War II. Her life suddenly changes with the arrival of Luigi and his three friends, strange but invigorating prisoners of war taken on for the subsidy and to help in the fields. It is from Luigi that she learns of passion and the value of simple human warmth and dignity.
