Jerry Fletcher (Mel Gibson) is a paranoid taxi driver who sees evidence of sinister plots in even the most ordinary places. Alice Sutton (Julia Roberts), on the other hand, is a bright, albeit skeptical Justice Department attorney to whom Jerry reports his far flung conspiracy theories. When one of his most outlandish theories turns out to be true, this mismatched pair suddenly finds themselves thrown together in an extraordinary search for the truth.
