Burn, Hollywood, Burn

Eric Idle, Coolio, Chuck D, Richard Jeni
Hollywood Pictures;
Directed by Alan Smithee
Rated R; 86 minutes; 1998

This mockumentary tells of a studio’s efforts to assemble an all-star cast to appear in an action blockbuster. However, with the dubious distinction of having the biggest budget of any movie in history, they see the project crumble when its director, British helmer Alan Smithee (Eric Idle) goes insane and confiscates the print because he hates it. The twist is, the Directors Guild mandates a uniform pseudonym to be used when this happens. This is, of course, Alan Smithee. Featured among the ensemble are Sylvester Stallone, Whoopi Goldberg and Jackie Chan as themselves.

“One of the funniest movies to turn up in ages.”
- Martin Grove, THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

“It’s run . . . peppered with uproarious touches.”

- Stephen Farber, MOVIELINE MAGAZINE

“Hilarious! Unrelenting in its viciousness.”
- Charles Fleming, THE LA WEEKLY
