Election

Paramount Pictures; Directed by Alexander Payne
Rated R; 104 minutes; 1999

Tracy Enid Smith (Reese Witherspoon) is running unopposed in the upcoming election for high school student body president. Unfortunately, a teacher (Matthew Broderick) who dislikes her grooms an underdog candidate to run against her. This, of course, sets the stage for considerable political backbiting in this witty comedy.

“Smart stuff . . . A wicked satire!”
- Glenn Kenny, PREMIERE

“ELECTION is a refreshing change. Rare comic bite.”

- Peter Travers, ROLLING STONE

"Wonderful new satirical comedy . . . witty.”
- David Denby, THE NEW YORKER
