HELL IS FOR HEROES
Steve McQueen, Bobby Darin
Paramount; Directed by Donald Siegel
Black and White; Not Rated; 90 minutes; 1962
Six G.I.'s are given the nearly impossible task of holding an area near the Siegfried line against enemy fire in World War II. It is the autumn of 1944 and the six are ready to go home, but first they are called to the front lines. Steve McQueen leads the group as they battle a German pillbox (a machine gun nest) until reinforcements can arrive. The moody McQueen keeps his men together despite their conflicts and they are able to deceive the Germans into thinking they represent a large Allied task force. An all-star cast well directed by Don Siegel (Dirty Harry).
