Buddy (Ben Affleck), a hip advertising agency partner anticipating a one night stand in Chicago, gives his airplane seat to a man who wants nothing more than to make it home to his family for the holidays. When the plane crashes and everyone on board is killed, guilt-wracked Buddy checks up on the man's widow (Gwyneth Paltrow) and they fall in love. The widow, however, has no idea about the circumstances of their meeting.
