Conor O’Neil (Reeves) is wandering through life as an underachiever who occasionally stumbles across a winning bet to keep him afloat – but not often enough when he finds himself severely in debt. His buddy refuses to just give him the money to pay off his debt as he has so many times in the past. As penance, and hopefully a learning experience, his friend makes Conor coach a little league team of underprivileged kids from the inner city. At first Conor is just suffering through this “punishment”, but seeing his influence on these young boys causes him to reevaluate his place in life and he finds an inner strength that he never new existed. Conor forms an attachment to these kids who rely on him to take them, even if only for a few hours, out of their often difficult and tragic lives. His eyes are opened to his frivolous life in this heartwarming story.
