Ten years ago, a young couple - Sara and Jonathan (Beckinsale and Cusack) - met in college, fell in love, and then went their separate ways to test that love. A decade later, they have left it to fate – serendipity – to bring them back together. Their cynical best friends lead them on an adventure through New York and a series of near misses brings Sara closer and closer to her impending wedding to another man.
