The king of surreal David Lynch is back with a tale beginning with a car crash on Mulholland Drive. When Rita (Harring) is drug from her car at gunpoint by two men, they are almost immediately struck and killed by an oncoming car. Rita has amnesia and staggers her way back to an apartment building where she runs into an aspiring actress who helps her attempt to put the pieces of her life back together. Lynch uses this as his spring board to take us into the interlocking lives of several interesting characters including a man who’s dreams keep coming true, a difficult film director, two gangsters and a pair of deadpan LAPD detectives. A sense of evil binds this ever-tightening group of strangers in this gripping thriller.
