This film based on the novel of the same title by Sebastian Faulks tells the story of Charlotte Gray (Blanchett), a Scottish woman who joined the French Resistance during World War II. Her hope is to rescue her lover, an RAF pilot who was shot down in France. Along the way, she meets and has an affair with a French resistance fighter (Crudup).
