When playing on the beach one day he ends up breaking the fence of a strange and hermit-life neighbor named Matty (Redgrave). He agrees to fix the fence and as they begin to spend time together. They find a common ground and Matty helps James resolve some of his feelings about the death of his mother. James finds that, while Matty is older, she is young at heart and he has a lot to learn from her. Matty believes that angels sometimes communicate through the living.
