Columbia Pictures; Directed by Spike
Jonze
2002
Screenwriter Charlie Kaufman
(played here by Cage) writes about a period of his own life where he was trying
to complete a screen adaptation.
Kaufman was a man filled with self-loathing and was overwhelmed by his
feelings of inadequacy. The “fourth
wall” is broken in spectacular style as the audience is allowed to see the
action of the book which he is trying to adapt. Through his journey, Kaufman’s life is complicated as he is
driven almost insane in trying to make something real of the characters in the
book.
