In the 1950s broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow hosted the two most popular news programs on television. He used his position to help end Senator Joseph McCarthy’s communist “witch-hunts” that were throwing the country into hysteria. McCarthy turned his venom on Murrow, but the reporter’s facts and enlightened ideals finally won out.
