Bases on the 1975 novel by concentration camp survivor Imre Kertesz, this film follows a young Hungarian Jew who is deported to Auschwitz. Gyuri finds himself lost in the horror of the camp trying to find solace in any kindness offered him by fellow inmates. When Gyuri finally returns home, he finds that the heinous things he has seen have left him alienated from the community he left behind.
