This film documents a disastrous 1968 round-the-world yacht race. Amateur Donald Crowhurst takes off in a cobbled together trimaran in an effort to save his family with the huge cash prize. When he gets into trouble with his boat he makes a decision to cheat on the home stretch and this film follows both the race and the way the sea gripped and changed everyone who challenged it.
