Ponyo is a magic goldfish that yearns to know what is life beyond the sea. Her humanoid dad does not want her to have any interactions with humans as he harbors hatred toward them for polluting their home. An accident one day sees Ponyo being washed ashore. She is picked up and befriended by five-year-old boy Sosuke who grows to love his finned friend.
